Hey GIRL Hey!

It’s confirmed!!! I had another ultrasound this morning, and we’re 100% sure now — all three of the triplets are GIRLS!! While we were of course hoping for a little boy somewhere in there, I’m overjoyed at the news because some of my best memories are of my two sisters and me playing dress-up, accessorizing Barbies, and having tea parties — and I can’t wait to do that all over again with my four girls!!

If you know my husband, Greg, you know that he’s “a man’s man.” One of four boys, he’s always loved sports, action movies, and “hangin with the guys.” At the same time, I know that having four girls doesn’t disappoint him at all. (I love it when he calls us “his girls.”) In fact, when we were dating, I always used to tell him that he’d have daughters. I just didn’t know how many!!

Having all girls is a positive thing in my mind for a couple of reasons:

• We already have a girl and know what they are like to raise.
• We don’t have to buy a completely separate wardrobe of clothes — they can share! (At least for the first few years… 🙂 )
• Girls tend to develop quicker and better before birth. They have a better chance of having more fully-developed lungs.
• While any kid can be a handful, I’ve witnessed firsthand that boys are just more rambunctious! Don’t deny it…
• I have two sisters, and the “drama” that people say is in our future is really not all that bad.

Aside from officially finding out the sex of the babies, we had a great ultrasound. They’re all healthy and moving around like crazy! Two are measuring perfectly at 17 weeks (6 ounces each), while one is measuring a little smaller at 16 weeks and a couple days (5 ounces).  We saw spines, brains, faces, femurs, bladders, and more — and they’re all looking great.

Today was also my first appointment with my new doctor, Dr. Dunlop. We actually already knew Dr. D and his family through church and some of my mom’s friends. I’m confident in his abilities, considering his track record with triplets (6 sets) and how calm he seems to be. I know I’m in good hands! Luckily, St. Francis (where I’ll be delivering) is right next door to the practice, so it’s always an easy trip if we need to take quick action.

When I got into work after my appointment, I was welcomed by a swarm of teammates — you’d think there was free food right by my desk (which there normally is in our marketing “circle”). All the women were so excited and loved seeing the ultrasound pictures. It was amazing to see such a bright and warm response from my friends and co-workers. We also chatted about possible names, and they’re starting a Google Doc to send me all their favorites! 🙂

Overall, it was a good appointment and a good day. Thank you God!

Weeks: 17

Weight Gained: 6 lbs.

Feeling: Great, but stomach feels a little funny after being poked at all morning!

Outlook: The best it’s been in 4 months.
